MotoGP: Laguna Seca
6 July 2009 – 10:05amThere was much hype for this race at Laguna Seca as last years race was one of the best ever races at the track.
Straight away on the first lap Rossi pulled an overtaking manouver on Stoner at the infamous corkscrew but on the next lap Stoner took his place back on the home straight.
For the next few laps Pedrosa continued to lead, Stoner following close behind him and Rossi closing the gap, 4th place man Dovizioso lost the front-end and that was the end of his race which then let Lorenzo find the back of Rossi and start to latch on to him.
It took Rossi a few laps but eventually with 21 laps remaining he overtook Stoner for 2nd place and started to set his sights on race leader Pedrosa with 19 laps remaining he was 2.5 seconds away, by this time Lorenzo had dropped quite far behind 3rd place man Stoner.
With only 12 laps to go Stoner had dropped off from Rossi which left him in the clutches of Lorenzo and he doesn’t need a second invitation, on the same lap on the last corner Lorenzo jumps stoner to take 3rd place.
The positions never changed after the overtaking manouver by Lorenzo on Stoner. Pedrosa took the chequered flag followed by Rossi, Lorenzo, Stoner and 5th place went to Stoner’s team mate Hayden.
Following the race the championship was still leading by Rossi (151), Lorenzo (142), Stoner (135) and Pedrosa (92) jumped a place and is currently in 4th place quite far behind the leaders and isn’t really challenging for the championship but he could upset it for some people.
Sadly we have to wait 2 weeks for the next race which is at Germany on the Sachsenring track.
