Wimbledon: Roddick vs Federer

5 July 2009 – 6:48pm

It was another epic Wimbledon final, this year it was Roger Federer and Andy Roddick, not many people had Roddick to even reach the final.

Roddick (in my opinion) is slowly getting his form back, hopefully he can keep it up but he’s not getting any younger, neither is Federer.

Some may say that if Nadal had entered the competition that he would have been in the final, I disagree with this, I believe Roddick would have dismantled him, his form during Wimbledon has been the best since his 2003 dominance, although his serve isn’t as fast as it used to be (155mph in 2003 compared to 141mph in 2009) he’s an all-around better player and proved that he’s not just a serve and forearm (1, 2) player.

This years Wimbledon in my opinion was better than last years, it went to an amazing 5th set as did last years, they played more games in less time both players must have been so damn tired when they had finished.

In the end it was Roger Federer who took the championship by winning the 5th and final set 16 games to 14, the match took them 4 hours 17 minutes.

Federer finally made it 15 grand-slam titles and passed the all-time record of 14 held by Pete Sampras. Andy Roddick was totally nackered after the match, so out of energy but if I’m honest, I thought he played his heart out over the entire 77 games played during the final which also set the record for the most games played in the open-era of grand slams.
