MotoGP: Indianapolis
14 September 2008 – 9:04pmWhat an amazing race, the 250cc race itself got postponed due to Hurricane Ike‘s tail winds being very close to the circuit.
With 9 laps to go the rain started to come down and wind speeds picked up ferociously and at 7 laps to go the race was given a red flag, which means whatever position you’re in at that precise time that’s your final position and the race is finished, the red flag was issued due to the weather.
Vale rode a solid race and finished in 1st place, he’s got the championship in the bag in my opinion. Hayden finally put in a decent performance this year, finishing in 2nd place and Lorenzo picked up the final podium position.
Wildcard rider Ben Spies did an awesome job for the Rizla Suzuki team coming in at 6th place, whereas the reigning world champion Casey Stoner could only manage 4th, just ahead of Andrea Dovizioso.
Usually, when the race is ended via a red flag they wait and see if the race is possible to continue with the remaining laps left, however, it was confirmed to the riders (so they went into their garage) that the race is finished.
Roughly 10 minutes later they confirmed that the remaining 6 to 8 laps would not be run due to weather conditions (although the sun was coming out) therefore the above standings were confirmed, all in all it was a fantastic race and I can’t wait for the next one in 2 weeks time!
